ABSTRACT

This study examined the “Problem and Prospects of Manpower Planning and Development in Lokoja Local Government, Kogi State. The researcher employed the use of primary and secondary data to conduct the study. The primary data included questionnaire and personal interview.

The secondary data was in form of literature review and works of others which are related to the topic. The findings revealed that manpower planning is needed to help appraise the problem militating against the effective implementation of the staff planning and development in the local government.

The researcher recommended ways through which manpower planning and development in the local government area can be effective and ways of how to provide further manpower needs of the organization.

Conclusions was drawn that training opportunity should be the highest motivating factors in the staff career with the local government as well as increase in salaries, and good promotion prospects as the other motivating factors respectively.
