ABSTRACTS

This project work is basically carried out to cover the role of commercial banks in economics development of kogi state with reference to First Bank Ltd, Lokoja. This research centered mainly on how effective and efficient has commercial banks is in developing the economic aspect in Lokoja. The researcher developed hypothesis to be tested for this research (commercial bank provide adequate financial and advisory services to small scale business). Data was derived from the used of questionnaires as the primary sources of data collection and data gathered was analyzed. The sample size of this research consist of about fifty one (51), respondents and the results retrieved was analyzed using simple percentage and hypothesis which were tested using chi-square statistical tools. In testing hypothesis one, the researcher discovered that commercial banks do provide adequate financial and advisory services to small scale businesses. Since the table value which is the null hypothesis Ho is (9.49) less than the alternative hypothesis Hl which is (14.78), so we accept Hl and reject Ho base on our decision rule. It was discovered that small scale operators divert the loan secure to other areas than their business enterprises. However, the finding also reveals that banking system will improve the economy of the zone and the state; it will create job opportunity and reduced the crime rate in the state. Therefore commercial banks should be well planned in a concise manner in order to improve the economy development of the state.
